Advice For Travellers

Does my travel insurance policy cover my property?

Personal effects and baggage – If, despite your due care and attention, your property should be lost or damaged during your trip, your policy will pay out the value of the item.

Our travel insurance covers single items to the value of £300 and delayed baggage for £150 if delayed for more than 12 hours.

Any loss or theft should be reported to the local police and the police report submitted to support any claim on your travel insurance policy.

Personal money – If, despite your due care and attention, your money should be lost or stolen during your trip, your policy will pay out up to £350.

Any loss or theft should be reported to the local police and the police report submitted to support any claim.

If your travel insurance claim is for delay, loss or damage to personal belongings, money and passport, you must tell the relevant carrier about any delay, loss or damage to personal belongings, money and passport if they are being carried by any Carrier. You must also get a property irregularity report. If you do not tell the Carrier within three days of the event, we may not be able to pay your claim.

You must report immediately any loss or theft of money or passport or loss or theft of personal belongings to the police (and hotel management/embassy if this applies). You must also get an official written report. If you do not tell the police (and hotel management/embassy if this applies) within 24 hours of the event, we may not be able to pay your claim. Please refer to your travel insurance policy to see the full terms and conditions of the policy. Personal Luggage and money are detailed in section 10, 11 and 12 of your travel insurance policy. For more information on travel insurance call us on 0800 581 801.

If your baggage is damaged, lost or stolen whilst in the possession of the carrier then you will need to claim compensation from the carrier.

If you are taking higher value possessions away with you then you should check you have adequate cover under your home contents insurance.

All claims are always subject to the terms and conditions of your policy.
